Hundreds of guests, parents, teachers, alumni and students were gathering
cheerfully at the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre on 5 th of
July. What's up? All of them came here for a single reason- to share the happiness
of our school's 30 th anniversary. It was one of the major programmes of the
30 th anniversary- Variety Show.
Our school has made every effort to nurture us into a well-rounded student.
Not only do our students have excellent academic results, we also have good
achievements in music, dance, drama and the like. What we could see in the
Variety Show is already a concrete proof of our achievements as the programmes
included a wide variety of performances like Orchestral Music, Choral Singing,
dancing, Cantonese opera and Free-style Rope-skipping, etc.
Good masters of ceremony are indispensable to a good show, four masters of
ceremony, Ng Ka Ho (5A), Fung Hoi Ting (7B) , Ho Chung Tim (7C) and Ho Miu
Ting (7C), speaking in English and Mandarin introduced the programmes to the
audience smoothly.
The Orchestral Music brought the show a glorious start. The songs "Tonight"
and "Exodus Song" adapted from the musical "West-side Story" and the film "Exodus"
respectively served as an opening of the show to welcome all the guests. Our
School Orchestra and Choir conducted by David de Wanderer performed the songs
grandly with Choi Tsz Wing (4E) 's Solo Violin performance.
Besides that, the "East Sea Fisherman's Song" played by our School Chinese
Orchestra, conducted by Mr. Chan Wai Kin, also gave us an excellent performance.
The song was consisted of four parts. "Winning a Battle Against the Strong
Sea" and "A Happy Return with Great Harvest" implied that our school has worked
together to strive for the best even if we were in hard times.
When it came to Choral Singing, the two songs "Flying Free" and "Dance of
Youth" conducted by Miss Chan Esther with 3D Man Sze Wah's Solo Flute's performance
helped express their delight in celebrating our school's 30 th anniversary
to the fullest.
Our Alumni Choir then presented more beautiful songs to us. You would be amazed
by their good organization and preparation, as they were graduates from different
years. Under the leading of God, they joined together and sung for our school
with the songs "O Danny Boy" and "The Rhythm of Life" conducted by Miss Lee
Wai Wai. The flute solo was performed by Leung Tin Wai.
Everyone could feel how excited they were about our school's 30 th anniversary
through the lyrics. Dancing could also bring out the similar feelings as long
as you understand the thoughts of the choreographer.
Our school has long been famous for dancing. On that night, the School Dance
Team gave us a feverish spirit by performing "Dance with your heart" to us.
It was choreographed jointly by our Dance Team's coaches, Miss Siu Chun Hong
,Ting Chi Man and Miss Ma Lin who is the National Class and Choreographer of
Dance. The dance won a prize this year, too.
In addition, more than 40 MST alumni presented their MST experiences in enigmatic
modern dance, lively Hip Pop, bouncing Jazz and quick-paced Tap .The dance
was called "M.S.T." With the dazzling lights shining on the stage, they conveyed
an impressing message to us- our school has always had the courage to be a
pioneer in M ultiple aspects, to the S pirit
necessary for absorbing new elements. Also, a magnificent T ransformation
has taken place at M.S.T. across the era.
This meaningful dance was choreographed by our alumni, Sharon Cheng, Karine
Lam and Venus Li.
"I started to learn to Cantonese Opera together with my mother since I was
eight." said 1E Hung Yiu Sun. His mother, Mrs. Hung Ung Mei Kun and he performed
a Cantonese Opera Excerpt Play- "Saying Farewell to Jing-ke at Yi shui" at
the show. All of us were impressed by their professional performance. "The
overwhelming support from the audience encourages us to perform frequently
in different community centres, schools and elderly centres in the territory,"
they told me energetically.
"We had not expected such an overwhelming support from the audience. Following
the rhythm of the music, they clapped their hands, shook their head and moved
their bodies." Actually, the high spirit of our Free-style Rope-skipping Team
paved the way for their success in the performance "Joyful-jump 30". "We would
like to jump with joy to celebrate the 30 th Anniversary of MST," the coach,
Miss Pang Chi Jing said. The team was just founded this year and their effort
put in this performance certainly deserved our praise.
The show finally came to an end with the musical- Awakening. It was performed
in English. The music, lyrics and the story were all written by our alumni,
teachers and students. "We have prepared for nearly a year. Although the task
is formidable, we succeeded. We are thankful to all the people involved." said
the directors, Man Wing Kwan (6A) and Yuen Mabel (6A). Those people included
the composer and our alumni, Dennis Wu Ming Yiu, the producers, Mr. Leung Tak
Ming and Chow King Wah, the music director, Miss Chan Esther and the conductor
and lyrics writer Tang Man Wai (5A). The story was written by Lau Wing Shuen
(5A) and Ting Gee Shing (5B).
"They are all students but they performed like professionals. It is.
professional. It is amazing and excellent," one of our students said. "Students
have a good command of English and the story is written in such a touching
and impressive way that nearly all of us were absorbed in it," said one
of the parents. The most important thing was that the story was highly educational.
As the story told us that Faith, Hope, Love and Wisdom from God shed light
on our pursuit of core values and help us build up a perfect character .Actually,
our values are now under the threat of different conflicting interests caused
by globalization. All in all, what we can say about the musical is that it
is fabulous, remarkable and marvelous.
MST is a place for us to get valuable knowledge, to learn from mistakes and
to develop our characters. For the past thirty years, it has contributed greatly
in nurturing us. Despite various challenges and difficulties, our school still
shines under the blessings of God. All of us are waiting for more anniversaries.
