Speech Day

The air was filled with joy, as the melody of our school song was being played on the annual Speech Day. The ceremony took place on 23rd November 2006. High spirited S.5 and S.7 graduates were seated well in the hall. It was, indeed, a memorable day for them all.

The highlight of the ceremony is when Professor Edward KY Chen, President of Lingnan University gave a very insightful speech to our fresh graduates.

The honorable speaker inspired the audience to 'learn how to learn' and 'never to be too proud of oneself'. It was amazing how he used the story of a small company that used to make small electrical parts long ago to tell us what a difference we could all make in this world. The company, General Electric is now a renowned multi-national corporation producing millions of household products for the global community. General Electric illustrates how a company should keep pace with changes in technology over time. In order to augment its sale over the century, the company changed its business and produced many different types of goods of various sectors. It enlarged the scope of the company. This example teaches us that in the modern society, the scope outweighs the scale.

Professor Chen reminded us all to be a well rounded individual for under the new educational reform, there will no longer be a disparity between the arts stream and the science stream. We all live in a new creative economy, and that requires us to be well-equipped with original ideas.

In conclusion, we should never stop learning. The Speech Day signifies that our students have come this far in their journey of learning. It was a milestone and yet there should be many milestones to come.

Congratulations to all our graduates.
