It is the tradition of our school to hold the flag-raising ceremony to celebrate the National Day. On 28th September, this activity was held to celebrate the 58th birthday of China. However, this year the ceremony was of great significance to us. Can you guess why? This is the last year of our secondary school life in which we can participate in MST's flag-raising ceremony. We bet we would miss it a lot when we become undergraduates at university.
Lining up in perfect order, facing the flagpole solemnly, all of us showed our respect to our dearest China. Yau Lai Yin from 7C shared her valuable and memorable experience in her trip to Beijing in the summer vacation. Not only did she pay a visit to the spectacular scenic spots, but she also attended the lessons in a secondary school there. We believe she learnt much about the cultural, educational, political aspects of our motherland. Admittedly, her horizon was widely broadened and her understanding of China was deepened.
What were you thinking of when you were lining up on the playground, listening to the national anthem and seeing the national flag being raised slowly? A glorious scene of Chinese athletes receiving the medals and standing on the victory rostrum in the Olympic Games popped up in our mind. The national song is definitely a symbol of honour. 2008 Olympic Games is going to be hosted in Beijing. Yes! 13 billion compatriots have been awaiting this grand occasion for ages and it will be literally held next year. Needless to say, this international sports event is the focus of attention of the whole world. Being eligible to host this long-awaited event, China shows her emerging international status. Her devotion and effort in organizing this event is highly commended. Looking ahead, we think that our mother country can play a more influential and important role in global affairs.
As Hong Kong students, what we should do on the National Day is to ascertain our identities of being Chinese and make a promise to ourselves that we should grasp every opportunity, like what Yau Lai Yin did, to know more about our motherland in all facets. After all, we are Chinese and we should be proud of that.
