Egg Falling and Cooking in M.S.T

Dropping eggs from the fourth floor without cracking them? It sounds another episode of mission impossible. But some of the junior students decided to finish this challenging mission on 7 May with simple materials like newspapers, drinking straws and sewing threads. All of them were participating in the Egg Falling Competition organized by the Science Society.

So how did they take this challenge? Given twenty-five minutes only, students had to design two sophisticated ˇ§eggsˇ¨ with full use of the materials supplied so as to make sure they would not break when landing on the ground. They all showed their creativity and scientific knowledge. Some created a newspaper-parachute, while some wrapped the egg with a newspaper-cage. After the preparation time, they had to release two inventions separately from upper floors and make sure they would hit the target in order to get the highest score.

It was a little bit windy that day, which made it more difficult to hit the target. It was a pity that none of the products succeeded in landing on the center of the target. However, it was impressive that there were only 2 eggs broken throughout the whole competition. The first prize went to three F.2 students, 2A Liu Chun Hin, Tang Kleon Fon Hei and 2B Chu Chung Hei.

Impossible is nothing. A brittle egg remained unbroken after a long and dangerous journey! While facing difficulties, we should make full use of what we have learnt. It was the science knowledge and effort that brought the three students success. Given little time and limited equipment, they did their best to finish the job. Their good attitude was simply praiseworthy.

Another special activity is Cooking Mama Competition, which was held on 15 May.

A question might appear in your mind when you heard that school was going to organize a "Cooking Mama" competition : Playing Wii or NDS is allowed in MST!? Of course not! Actually, it was a cooking competition organized by the Student Union, in which students cooperated with teachers to prepare delicious meals.

Cooking Mama Competition successfully attracted many students and teachers to join. Ms. May Chan represented the Faith House, while Mrs. Fan Leung Lai Ha, Ms. Rachel Leung and Ms. Wong Yi Ching represented the Hope House, the Love House and the Wisdom House respectively. Mr. and Mrs. Wu Wai Man were invited to be the special guests. Mr. Kwong Pak Ho, Mr. Chan Tsz Kin and Ms. Kam Ka Li also joined the event.

In order to become the champion, the participants needed to design a unique meal and buy the ingredients themselves. Within the limited time, they had to impress the judges with a wonderful meal.

It was very tough for the judges to decide which team was the winner, as every team prepared some great food. Finally, the championship went to the Wisdom House and the first runner-up was the Faith House.

Cooking Mama Competition is definitely an interesting activity, as students can get a taste of cooking. In the competition, they learned some useful cooking skills. In addition, they learned how to cooperate with others. Of course, the competition also gave us a chance to look at ˇ§the other sideˇ¨ of our teachers, who wore aprons instead of suits and used a wok chaan instead of a piece of chalk.
