On January 13, 2000, science once again brought good news to us:
Tetra, the first cloned monkey in the world, was born. Scientists said
that cloned monkeys would replace rats and would significantly help in medical research.
The more amazing thing is that one of the scientists in the team,
Dr. Chan Wing-sun, is an Asian and also our alumnus. Today, we are all
proud of Dr. Chan's exemplary work.
Dr. Chan was born in Hong Kong in 1966. When studying in MST, Dr. Chan
did not have excellent academic results. He got an 'A' only for his good
conduct at school. It was almost impossible for such an ordinary student to
become a great scientist in the biotechnology field, but finally, he got it.
Mr. So Yu-ho, the form teacher of Dr. Chan in Form 1 said: "He was a good
student and responsible. He was the secretary and treasurer of the class
association. He had a talent for science." Our vice-principal, Mr. Li Ma-on,
who was the chemistry teacher of Dr. Chan said: "Sometimes he was very quiet,
but he was a thinking student."
After graduating from our school, Dr. Chan went to a university in Taiwan to
take a degree course in veterinary science. After that, he went to America to continue
his studies and later took part in research.
"Whenever there are problems arising in the research, I tell myself not to give up!
I would keep on working until I find the answers." Dr. Chan is indeed a good role
model for us. Today, his effort and perseverance help him open the way to honor.
In the future, this can also be our road of success, if we follow suit.
