The eyes of the audience were fixed on the ball as it shot across the court. While the ball was still in the air, a player appeared out of nowhere and stole it. With no one around to stop him, the ball gracefully drew an arc in the air and went smoothly into the basket.
After the house committee election in September, the first inter-house competition took place in late October. Students took part seriously in every match because the more prizes a house wins, the higher marks it gains. At the end of the school term, the house that has gained the highest marks will be rewarded as ˇ§The Champion of the Yearˇ¨. It is a great honor for the winning house so every match is intoxicating and breathtaking.
The competition was among all four houses and it was so appealing that crowds appeared in the corridors on every floor as well as around the court. Seeing the stunning playing skills, every spectator was amazed. Every time the ball was shot, the crowd broke into a round of applause. The spectators enjoyed the match so much that all of them shouted at the top of their lungs. Only at the inter-house competition can you see this scene, where students from different classes and houses come together and support the players on the court.
Good spectators make great events and the audience provided great support for the athletes. Besides applauding, they also handed over water and tissue to the athletes during breaks to show their concern and support. These spectator qualities were the mainstays for helping all of our athletes perform well.
Another angle we shouldn't forget about is that on the court, there are no individuals. You do not only fight for yourself, but for the team as a whole. If everyone puts all his or her effort into achieving the same goal, the result might turn out to be surprising. Competence alone cannot make you win. Cooperation, persistence, determination and passion each have a role to play.
'I was surprised at the result. We never expected to win, as there were skilled players on the other teams. Of course, our team did very well and cooperated flawlessly. We hope we can keep going and achieve the championship!' said Frankie Yeung from the winning Faith House team.
The final events were held on the 29th and 30th of October. Faith house won the championship for both the girls' and boys' senior competitions. Love house won the championship for the boys' junior and the 1st runner up of the boys' senior event. Hope house won the 1st runner up prize for the girl's and the boys' junior competitions. Congratulations!
For us, what the competition was all about was this: If you put our total effort into preparing, and work hard enough, you may achieve results beyond your wildest expectations.
