Teacher-student Basketball Competition

Have you ever watched the teacher-student basketball match organized by our Student Union in the previous years? Were those matches exciting? Were those matches exhilarating? This year, Simpaticle held an unusual activity which could enhance the relationship between teachers and students. On 2nd January, the first day we came back to school after Christmas holiday, the long-awaited teacher-student basketball competition was held after school. Mr Lau Kwok Tin (Wa Dee), Mr Kwong Pak Ho, Mr Wu Wai Man, Mr Wan Po Keung, Mr Wong Man Wai, Mr Leung Wai Kei and the only female participant, Miss Poon Wai Fong were the players of the teachersˇ¦ team.

Before the competition, both teachers and students were busy warming up themselves and doing practice. Although the game had not yet started, there were already plenty of students assembling along the corridor of every floor. This scene was rarely seen. The spectators were all in high spirits, especially when the teachers had good shots, the students would cheer loudly and enthusiastically. The competition eventually began at about 4p.m.

Wow! Mr Kwong tactfully grabbed the ball from the studentsˇ¦ team and shot a goal! Awesome!! A brilliant pass from behind the back was made by Mr Wong! Nice!! Wa Dee shot beyond the arc and he made it!!! Studentsˇ¦ team was trying their best to defend against the overwhelming attacks from the teachers. Fans were all over each floor, screaming and cheering. Eventually, efforts from teachers had paid off; they outperformed the students and won --- 69:41.

We interviewed one of the student participants of this competition, Fung Tin Pui from 5A. He remarked,ˇ§ This is really a special game to me. Teachers are teachers and we are no matches for them. Admittedly, competing against teachers, especially those who are not teaching P.E. was really a great fun. I was satisfied with the result. Since all the teachers were excellent players, we were destined to lose..ˇK.ˇ¨.

We also interviewed a teacher player, Mr Kwong Pak Ho. He said that the spectators were all very involved and he could see many fans supporting Mr Wa Dee. He was impressed that studentsˇ¦ sense of belonging to MST was so intense that a lot of students were willing to stay after school to watch the match. He also appreciated the harmonious relationship between teachers and students. He hoped that we could have different kinds of teacher-student activities in the future.

Being spectators, we really enjoyed watching such a marvellous competition. Before half time, both teams did not have a lot of aggressive attacks. However, after half time, tension was steadily built up among the participants and they became eager to score for their respective teams. This was the climax of the competition, so everyone held his or her breath to see which team could win. Despite the defeat, undoubtedly students had played very well in this game. After all, the most meaningful insight we can gain from the match is: teachers not only teach well in the classrooms, but they also get involved in studentsˇ¦ activities after school whole-heartedly. They are actually both our friends and teachers. We feel deeply grateful that we can have these teachers in MST. How about you? Do you feel alike?
