July 13, 2005, a night that we will not forget. It was the night when we gathered
at Maxim's Palace Restaurant, Shatin, to celebrate the 30 th Anniversary of
our school.
At about 7 o'clock, gentlemen in suits and ladies in gowns studded with dazzling
jewels streamed into the Maxims' Palace Restaurant in Shatin. They were members
of the MST council, alumni, staff, parents and students. At the reception area,
guests were warmly greeted by broad-smiling MST staff and student escorts instead
of the usual waiters and waitresses. The dining room was packed with people
cheerfully chatting and taking photos. Guess what people said most in this
remarkable night?
" Hey, long time no see.... "
" How do you do? "
" Oh, nice to meet you again.... "
Why? Because this was the big reunion night of students and teachers over
thirty years.
After several rounds of greeting and bear hugging, we finally settled at our
table. The Masters of Ceremony emerged and led us in the school song singing,
which marked the formal beginning of this night's banquet. We were impressed
to see that many of the alumni still knew the school song by heart. Their tie
to MST was evidently strong and growing.
The highlight came when Mr. Kam held his glass high and proposed a toast for
the night, everybody followed and cheered loud, 'Happy anniversary to MST.'
Our heart was filled with happiness and thankfulness. It was God's grace that
kept MST flourishing in the past 30 years.
While we were enjoying the rich and delicious food, there were various performances
staged for our honorable guests and participants. They were jazz and Chinese
folk dances performed by the alumni dance team and our current dance team respectively.
There were also a variety of musical performances given by brilliant winners
of past music contests.
To add excitement and fun to the occasion, two rounds of lucky draw were scheduled
between performances. Every time when the announcement of lucky draw was made,
a hush fell over the room with everybody holding their breath, all eyes on
the guest of honour pulling the chip from the bag. Explosion of cheers and
laughter went from one table to another whenever a member's ballot was drawn.
What a wonderful night it was.
Towards the end of the night, a touching video 'Sweet Memories' was shown.
A few present and past teachers shared their thoughts and fond memories of
MST. Everyone fell silent and followed the nostalgic journey back to the past
years. It seemed to be sad that we had to separate from MST, our teachers and
schoolmates, but knowing that we could always gather and chat with one another,
just like this night, our hearts felt warm again.
Separation is one of the inevitables in our lives; however, if we know that
we will meet again soon, we will not be troubled. This night we did not only
commemorate our school's 30th Anniversary, but also commemorate our own reunion.
Although all of the anniversary activities had come to an end, our love for
the school and one another will never end! (Noriko Chan)
